IFIAS is the International Federation of Institutes for Advanced Study. We are a network of about scientific research institutions from developed and developing countries that collaborate on projects addressing global policy issues..
The idea of the International Federation of Institutes for Advanced Study was conceived at a Nobel Symposium 14 in Stockholm in 1969, entitled “The Place of Value in a World of Facts.”
In the context of work on National Systems of Innovation, the STI programme provides an opportunity for collaboration in the analysis and comparison of institutional structures for science and technology, and evaluation of appropriate policy interventions for increasing returns on national SandT investments.
Since moving to Canada in 1986 until 1998, IFIAS received core funding from the Canadian International Development Agency. In previous years, this funding totaled $250,000 on an annual basis. Revenues from membership fees have not been invoiced recently, but historically totalled approximately $60,000 annually.
